Spirit adds service from Charleston to these two Northeast hubs

Starting April 10, Spirit will add flights between Charleston International Airport, Boston Logan International Airport and New York’s LaGuardia Airport.

Spirit Airlines is expanding its presence in South Carolina, adding flights from Charleston to Boston and New York City this spring.

Starting April 10, the low-cost airline will add flights between Charleston International Airport, Boston Logan International Airport and New York’s LaGuardia Airport, Spirit confirmed to Travel + Leisure. New flights are operated daily.

“Charleston’s historic sites, thriving dining scene, and beautiful beaches make it one of the most popular vacation destinations in the United States, and Spirit’s new daily nonstop service will provide customers in Boston and New York with convenient transportation throughout the city. “This is a convenient and affordable option that should be available this spring,” Spirit Airlines Vice President of Network Planning John Kirby said in a statement shared with T+L. “We are celebrating our one-year anniversary in Charleston this April by expanding our schedule to five nonstop flights and offering CHS customers more connections to two metropolitan areas in the Northeast. I’m looking forward to it.”

In addition to the new flights, Spirit flies from Charleston (voted the No. 1 city in the nation by T+L readers) to Fort Lauderdale, Las Vegas and Newark. Last year, the airline launched its first service from the popular South Carolina state.

The decision to expand Charleston service comes after a federal judge blocked the airline’s highly controversial merger with JetBlue that would have made it the fifth largest airline in the United States. . After a 17-day trial, a federal judge in Massachusetts ruled that the merger was illegal because it violated antitrust laws.

Spirit and JetBlue appealed the decision. Spirit, on the other hand, is a low-cost carrier that offers one-way tickets and charges additional fees such as baggage and seat reservations. Travelers who are members of the airline’s paid annual membership program, Saver$ Club, receive discounts on these benefits. Spirit also launched a status matching program that offers travelers similar benefits for a fee.
